My core creative activity is as a performance storyteller.
Starting mostly from traditional stories – folktales, legends and myths found in collections old and new – I compose and choreograph, shape and stretch until each story is a new piece, living and breathing in a different way. Then I start to tell the story to people, and it changes some more. Each performance is slightly different – alive and exciting.
Different stories suit different settings and different audiences. I have performances that were created especially for schools, others for arts festivals. For family audiences and street performance I like to work with improvised tales, where storyteller and audience work together to make the story.
And stories make a great centre for projects – which can go off in many different directions depending on the time available. Its particularly exciting when there is a chance to blend storytelling and the ideas involved in games design and interactive theatre.
